Convinced that no one should live and die without hearing God’s good news, we believe that he has called us to make disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ in communities where he is least known.
We are an international organisation
Serving In Mission is an international mission organisation with more than 3,000 cross-cultural mission workers, connecting people and churches in 70+ countries. We not only send people from the UK to share the gospel as part of multicultural teams in a wide range of strategic ministries, but we also have mission workers from other nations serving cross-culturally in the UK.
The importance of the least reached
We want to see a world with a witness to Christ’s love where he is least known, disciples of Jesus expressing God’s love in their communities, and Christ-centred churches among all peoples.
SIM has a particular heart for the least-reached parts of the world, where it’s difficult to work as a Christian and openly share your faith. We believe the gospel task means we must go to these hard places and bring the love of Christ in humility and culturally appropriate ways.
A church-centred approach
It’s the responsibility of the local church to fulfil the Great Commission, sharing the gospel locally and globally. Many churches don’t have the capacity to support workers overseas, so SIM provides an experienced and knowledgeable service to make sure mission workers are well looked after and can focus on their ministry.
Sharing God’s love in action
We have workers sharing their faith in a wide range of contexts, including Bible teaching, translation, medical work, engineering, teaching, sports coaching, arts ministry, church-planting, business, and working with people who are vulnerable, or who have been exploited, to name but a few.
We are Committed to Biblical Truth and Dependent on God.
Vision & Mission
Our vision: a world with a witness to Christ’s love where he is least known, disciples of Jesus expressing God’s love in their communities, and Christ-centred churches among all peoples.
To do this, we work hand-in-hand with evangelical churches to: make disciples for Christ where he is least known; send and receive gospel workers; and equip people for cross-cultural mission.
Our mission: we are compelled by God’s great love and empowered by the Holy Spirit:
We cross barriers to proclaim the crucified and risen Christ, expressing his love and compassion among those who live and die without him.
We make disciples who will trust and obey Jesus, and become part of Christ-centred churches.
We work together with churches to fulfil God’s mission across cultures locally and globally.
We facilitate the participation in cross-cultural ministry of those whom God is calling.
We are a Christ-like
community concerned
about human needs.
Our History
On December 4, 1893, three young men landed at Lagos in Nigeria, scarcely knowing how God would use their lives to transform generations of others worldwide.
Walter Gowans, Roland Bingham, and Thomas Kent had a vision – compelled by love to share the news of Jesus Christ with the 60 million unreached people of the Sudan in sub-Saharan Africa. Now, more than 130 years later, SIM has grown and developed, as thousands of people have served, tens of thousands of churches have been established, and millions of people have come to trust in Jesus.
We are a People of Prayer,
Mission-Focused
and Church-Centred.
